September 29, 2009

There was a football game at O. Henry so the group took it a little north on Exposition to Bridle Path (this is “Plan B” whenever there is an official school function that coincides with a Tuesday/Thursday workout).  Bridle Path is a little hilly so “Tuesday” immediately became “Thursday”.

The Workout – Yasso 800s
Fast Group = 6
Fun Group = 5

News – M2MTG will be doing Scenic tomorrow (sans Big) departing the rock at 4ish.  There will be a hill workout (what another one??) on Thursday.  There will be a long run on Saturday departing the zero at 7 am.  Austin Marathoners are scheduled for 14 miles on the trail.  M2MTG will doing a 21.74 miler following this route (the northern part of the Austin Marathon course):  http://www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=319720.  There will be Gatorade/water on the 21.74 mile route every two miles (roughly).  M2MTG departure time from the zero will be 5:15 am.  Breakfast at Little Mexico (2304 S 1st) at 9:40:59.

Good luck to those running St. George this weekend (Allegra, Frank, Scott, and Paul Williams)!!  If you’re running it and you’re not listed…please reply so we can send you some good vibes as well!

Way to coach, Al!

September 25, 2009
I feared the clouds and light drizzle might keep folks away from the workout (there were only 6 at the store at 5:45). Turns out the traffic just slowed things down a bit…after a few drills the group was around 16 strong and topped out at around 20 by time the workout actually started.

The Workout – 1000 meter repeats

James Group = 9 (not a typo)

Fast Group = 4

Fun Group = 3

New/Injured/Recovering/Tapering = 1 or 2

News – there will be a long run on Saturday departing the zero at 7 AM sharp. Fast Group route is 14 miles including Stratford, Scenic, and Mt Bonnell. Fun Group route is 8 miles. I’ve heard a little whining about the Mt Bonnell route…so if you want to do more than 8 without climbing Mt Bonnell you can follow the 8 mile route but make it 11 or 14 by continuing on the trail to 35 (11) or Pleasant Valley (14). Breakfast at La Feria at 9:35:36 AM.

September 23, 2009

The rain hung around long enough to cancel the middle school football game but not long enough to cancel the workout!  The cloud cover and cool breeze hung around for the duration of the workout…it was nearly perfect.  The group was around 40 strong…which included at least two newcomers and several returners.

As a reminder, if there is ever a football game going on…just continue down Exposition a few blocks to Bridle Path and turn left.  We’ll meet there and do the workout.

The Workout – 1000 meter repeats
Fast Group = 4
Fun Group = 3
Recovering/Tapering/Injured Reserve/Newcomers = 2 or 1

News – M2MTG will be doing Scenic this afternoon departing the rock at 4ish.  There will be a hill workout on Thursday.  There will be a long run on Saturday, hills involved…and by hills I mean lots of hills.

Way to coach, Al!

Cloudy skies and mild temperatures brought out a large group for a Thursday workout…and POJ’s socks didn’t scare them away!  Way to coach, Al!!  If you missed the workout tonight you also missed some freebies from Clif.  Gels, blocks, powdered drink…all courtesy of Austin Runners Club!  Thanks, ARC!!

The Workout – Art’s Rhombus (400 & 200 using Norwalk/12th/Wayside/Marlton)
JimiTex Discount Group = 4

News – M2MTG will be doing a recovery run on the trail tomorrow departing the rock at 4ish. There will be a hill workout on Thursday. There will be a long run on Saturday (4, 7, 10, or 13 on the trail). The 13 miler is on the Austin Marathon Training Schedule. M2MTG will be doing 20 on Saturday. Breakfast TBA.

More News – next Tuesday there is a good chance there will be a middle school football game going on during our regularly scheduled workout time. Whenever that occurs (ie you show up at the track and there are kids on the field in uniforms, the game clock is on, there are buses parked along Exposition) continue on down Exposition to Bridle Path, go left, and we’ll do the workout there.

Big News – don’t forget Christine’s gig at Cedar Street on Monday, 9/21, from 9 pm to 1 am!

September 14, 2009

It rained pretty much the whole time we ran our 12 miler Saturday morning!   It was awesome.  Breakfast at Galaxy Cafe was well attended and Allegra’s birthday cake was enjoyed by all.  Happy 28th, Allegra!
