October 30, 2009

A great night thanks to our great hosts, Jim & Michelle!  Way to host, guys!!  The kitchen looks great, the food was EXCELLENT, and the company was pretty good too!  As hard as the hills were, the after-party made them all worth it!

The Workout – Fireoak Fishbowl (1.1 mile out and back)
Fast = 3
Fun = 2
Recovering/Tapering/I’m Hungry = 1

There will be a long run on Saturday departing the zero at 7 AM, on the trail this week for as much or as little as you want to do!  Austin Marathon Group is scheduled for 17, SAMTG is scheduled for 20.  I will have delicious orange gatorade at the start so bring your empty water bottles!!  Breakfast at La Feria (2010 S Lamar) at 10:40 AM…or whenever you get there!

Don’t forget to set your clock back one hour before you go to bed Saturday night as it is time to “fall back”!  That also means it’s time to either break out or buy yourself a blinking light for the Tuesday/Thursday workouts!!

Tuesday 10/27/2009 (SPECIAL THURSDAY WORKOUT INFO)

October 28, 2009

THERE IS A LOT OF INFORMATION HERE SO PLEASE READ ALL THE WAY TO THE END.

Another perfect evening for a run, seriously.  It seems like we don’t get days like this very often…and the group was out in force to take advantage of it.  Not to let anyone down, Coach Al rewarded us with a heavy dosage of Yasso 800s.  Folks did anywhere from a couple to as many as 10.  Way to coach, Al!

News – SAMTG will be departing the rock at 4ish today for a Scenic loop.

THURSDAY’S workout will not be at the regular time/place.  We will be meeting at Captain and Michelle’s for hill repeats immediately followed by a little get together at their home.  It was originally planned to unveil their newly remodeled kitchen…but I think we should hijack it to celebrate Michelle, Hillary, and Sandy’s recent BQs at Frankenthon!!

There will be a long  run Saturday departing the zero at 7 AM.  We’ll be on the trail this week.  Austin Marathon group is scheduled for 17 miles (10 mile loop plus 7 mile loop).  SAMTG will be doing 20 (double 10 mile loop).  Breakfast at La Feria at 10:40 AM…or earlier if you’re running less and get hungry.

Daylight Savings Time – On Sunday, November 1, @ 2 AM it’s time to set the clocks back an hour.  It’s going to be dark during Tuesday/Thursday workouts for several months.  Please acquire a blinking light that can be attached to your person!

Congrats, again, to all the Frankenthoners (and to Frank and Shelley for pulling off an awesome inaugural event)!  Congrats to the Marine Corps Marathoners (LA, Raul, and Richard)!  Good luck to the New York Marthoners this weekend (Frank, Scott, Vance and ?)!

October 13, 2009

“Running through the funk” usually describes running in close proximity to someone who doesn’t give their tech fabrics the appropriate level of care in the laundry department…tonight it took on a whole new meaning!  It was a gigantic, soupy mess out there!  Of course, that didn’t stop the group from swelling to 40+.  Way to coach, Al!

The Workout – partner 400s, half lap relays
Fast Group = 6×400 plus 6 half laps each (3 complete laps)
Fun Group = 4×400 plus 6 half laps each (3 complete laps)
Severe Taper Mode Group = 4×400 plus NOTHING!!

M2MTG will be departing the rock at 4ish tomorrow for 3 easy miles on the trail…followed by lots of stretching AND a smoothie from Daily Juice.  There will be a hill workout on Thursday.  There will be a long run on Saturday (way to lead, Carter).  The Austin Marathon Group has the IBM Uptown Classic on the schedule (assuming Distance Challenge)…otherwise it’s 4, 7, or 10 on the trail.  Breakfast TBA.

October 9, 2009

PLEASE NOTE – there is a change to the breakfast schedule beginning this Saturday!  Due to the wide range of distances and paces (and that our recent crowds of 20 plus, while great for business, are most likely creating a bit of kitchen trauma) there will be no set breakfast time.  Breakfast starts when you get there and ends when you’re done!

The Workout – BIG Finish 800s
JimiTex Group = 5
Fast Group = 4
Fun Group = 3
Newcomers = 2
Severe Taper Mode = 1

The route for the 800 started just a little south of 12th street on Possum Trot, south on Possum Trot to Marlton, west on Marlton to Wayside, north on Wayside to 12th, east on 12th to Possum Trot, south on Possum Trot to 11th, and east on 11th to the top of the hill for the BIG finish!

News – there will be a long run on Saturday, lollipop involved.  You can pretty much run any distance you want.  There will be folks running anywhere from 7 to 15.  http://www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=314222

The map shows only the lollipop (from the Barton Springs footbridge and back without any Wilkes).  Whatever trail loop you do adds that distance plus every Wilke repeat you do adds .5 miles.

Breakfast is at Sazon http://www.sazonaustin.com on S. Lamar whenever you get there.  We’re anticipating the first arrivals will be around 8:15ish…with the last arrivals coming in around 9:45ish.  There will be birthday cake for the birthday girl.

Way to coach, Al!  Run every chance you get!

7 = 0, lollipop, straight back to the 0
9 = 4 mile loop plus the lollipop
10 = 5 mile loop plus the lollipop
12 = 7 mile loop plus the lollipop
15 = 10 mile loop plus the lollipop

This map http://www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=314222 has a water stop at Fast Jack’s house…and each Wilke repeat adds another 1/2 mile.

Breakfast TBA.

October 1, 2009

Hello October!  While I’m sure we were all hoping that September would take the crap weather with it when it left…it was not to be.  Coach Al, however, came through in fine fashion with a pseudo-flat mile route to compensate for the less than flat “track” workout that we did on Bridle Path on Tuesday.  Way to coach, Al!!

The Workout – Mile Repeats @ marathon pace
James/Russell Group = 6
Fast Group = 3
Fun Group = 2
Newcomers/Returners/Tapering/Recovering/Injured = 1

Mile 6 – gatorade (more of the awesome orange stuff)
Mile 8 – gatorade (probably lemon/lime)

Mile 12 – gatorade (probably lemon/lime)
