December 17, 2010

A very nice cold front blew approximately 3 seconds after the early Thursday morning folks finished their 5:20 am run.  You gotta love Texas.  One minute you’re running along feeling like it’s the middle of summer all over again…and the next minute it’s near perfect!  About a dozen shipmates showed up for the evening workout to soak in the great weather and knock out a hilly tempo.  Way to coach, Al!

The Workout – 6 mile tempo
BCMTG /Austin Marathoners/Fast Group = the 3 miler twice
Fun Group = the 3 miler once

News – There will be a long run on Saturday departing the zero at 7:00:00 am.  On the trail this week for 4, 7, 10, or 13.  BCMTG and Austin Marathoners will accomplish 13 by running the 10 mile loop and adding the 3 mile out and back east of Longhorn Dam (The Roy G. Guerrero Colorado River Trail Extension).  Breakfast at Casa Garcias (1000 S. Lamar) at 9:15:15 am.

More News – if you pre-ordered a ship shirt and have yet to pick it up…please make every effort to attend Saturday’s long run/breakfast to pick it up.  I’d really like to get them distributed so that folks who want one of the “extras” can get one.  Thank you!

December 10, 2010

Excellent evening for a run!  The group was a little on the small side…maybe a dozen.  The recently dismantled CIMTG is still in recovery mode…while the Austin Marathoners must be tapering for their 20 miler on Saturday!  Way to coach, Al!

The Workout – 5 mile tempo

News – there will be a long run on Saturday departing the zero at 7:00:00 am.  Austin Marathoners have a 20 miler on the schedule and will start at 5:15:00 am with this 10 mile portion of the new Austin Marathon course (south).  They’ll return to the zero by 7:00:00 am to join the fast group for this 10 mile portion of the new Austin Marathon course (more north and sharing approximately 6 miles of the new course).  The fun group can start at 7:00:00 am and cut off at Windsor (which becomes 24th) and then catch Rio Grande back for closer to 6 miles total.  CIMTG will be consumed by JMTG and, being in severe recovery mode, should do no more than 10 miles of any of the aforementioned routes at any of the aforementioned start times.  Breakfast is at Taquerias Arandas (2448 S 1st St.) in two shifts (7:10:01 am and 9:10:02 am).

More News – I knocked Bruce’s book (Sour Lake; Or, The Beast) out in less than 48 hours.  It’s a great read and ridiculously underpriced on amazon.com.  Bruce has long held the award for the most epic race report ever written (often being accused of writing it first and then going out to run a race to match it) and the book is even better!

Yet More News Still – VOLUNTEER FOR DECKER (if you’re not running it)!  We still need a few volunteers to make the ship water stop rock.  The race is Sunday morning.  Email Al @ al.cumming@texasbar.com and let him know you’ll be there.
