October 28, 2011

The overcast sky and strong wind from the north presented the perfect backdrop for a fall workout.  The temperature dropped from the low 70s at the beginning of the workout to the low 60s by the end.  It was quite nice.  Way to coach, Al!

The Workout – 5 mile tempo, or 2.5ish if you cut across at Enfield

News – there will be a long run on Saturday departing the zero at 7:00:00 am.  On the trail this week for 4, 7, or 10.  The overnight low on Friday is now supposed to be 43 degrees.  Breakfast at Maria’s Taco Express at 9:12:55 am.

As we approach daylight savings time in a couple of weeks, Coach Al reminded the group (53 strong) that it’s time to start rounding up blinking lights and reflective vests/clothing.  The time changes the weekend of November 5th/6th.  You should have your stuff rounded up in time for the workout on Tuesday, November 8th…and definitely by the tempo run on Thursday, November 10th.  Be safe out there.  Way to coach, Al!

The Workout – ladder
Fast/Marathon Group = 400, 600, 800, 1200, 800, 600, 400
Fun/Half Marathon Group = 400, 600, 800, 1200

News – there will be a hill workout on Thursday (5 mile tempo).  There will be a long run on Saturday departing the zero at 7:00:00 am.  On the trail this week for 4, 7, or 10.  The overnight low on Friday is 38 degrees.  Breakfast at Maria’s Taco Express at 9:12:55 am.

The server that handles the email list has been out of commission and ate the email concerning Tuesday’s report so the only way to access it was direct to the web site.  Thursday’s routes were ones that we run frequently so hopefully no one is still out there.  Way to coach, Al!

The Workout – tempo runs of 3 or 5 miles

News – there will be a long run on Saturday departing the zero at 7:00:00 am.  We’ll be employing the Barton Hills Lollipop so the distance is 5.4 miles plus whatever you want to do on the trail.  The shortest route possible is 7 miles.  The longest is infiniti.  Breakfast at Austin Diner (5408 Burnet) at 9:03:17 am.

October 13, 2011

In retrospect, we should have done half drills.  It was pretty dark at the end of the 7 miler.  Not as dark as it will be after the first week of November…but dark nonetheless.  Lesson learned (or relearned)!

The Workout – 7 mile tempo – we changed things up a little by using the trail instead of Scenic.  The group’s response was fairly enthusiastic so we may have to bring this one back at some point.

News – there will be a long run on Saturday departing the zero at 7:00:00 am.  On the trail this week for 4, 7, or 10 miles.  Breakfast at Dario’s at 8:55:55 am.

More News – ARC will be hosting a water stop at the Run for the Water 10 Miler on October 30th.  The stop is just before mile 3 at O. Henry Middle School.  If you’d like to help out please email Cristy.  In more Run for the Water related news, there will be a get together of sorts at El Arroyo on 5th St this Saturday from 9:30 – 11:00.  My understanding is there will be tacos, mimosas (which means Heather and Jerie will be there), and discounted race entries available.

Yet More News Still – ship shout out to Al & Sandy who are in Chattanooga running the 7 Bridges Marathon on Sunday!

Happy birthday, Sandy!!

As Coach mentioned in an email earlier today, it is going to be a mess on Saturday morning all around the zero.  The Livestrong 5k had 5500 participants last year, the start/finish line is right by the zero, and it starts at 8 am so be prepared.  Never fear…if you’re a few minutes we’ll be a few minutes down the trail!

The Workout – 844s
Fast/Marathon Group = 800, 400, 400 x 3
Fun/Half Marathon Group = 800, 400, 400 x 2

October 6, 2011

We like to mix things up a bit.  Running different routes (even if only slightly different) keeps motivation up and things interesting.  Familiarize yourself with the maps that are sent out prior to the runs.

The Workout – 6 mile tempo

Hello, October!  The time trial was well attended…probably a record for a Thursday but no official count was done.  There were, of course, more people at the after party than the workout.  Way to coach, Al!
