November 29, 2011

Tonight we said good-bye to November and will welcome December on Thursday.  November was kind to us…much more so than its predecessors (August, September, and October).  It’ll be sad to see her go.

The Workout – mile repeats (3) – each a little faster than the last

News – there will be a hill workout on Thursday (3 mile tempo).  There will be a long run on Saturday departing the zero at 7:00:00 am.  The half marathoners are scheduled for 10 miles.  The full marathoners can tack on an additional 7 miles either before (at 5:40:00 am) or after the 10.  Breakfast at Another Broken Egg Cafe (3016 Guadalupe) at 7:15:15 am, 9:01:01 am, or 10:00:00 am.

The Workout – 1000 meter repeats x 5

News – there will NOT be a hill workout on Thursday (Thanksgiving)!  The training schedules call for a four mile tempo…and that sounds a lot like a Turkey Trot.  There will be a long run on Saturday departing the zero at 7:00:00 am.  On the trail this week for as much as 20 miles.  There will be some folks starting at 5:20:00 am for 10 miles prior to joining the group at 7:00:00 am.  Breakfast at Kerby Lane Cafe (2606 Guadalupe) whenever you get there!

November 18, 2011

The darkness and traffic conspired to keep the group numbers lower than they’ve been in quite a while.  The night was perfect for a hilly tempo and the 17 who showed up made the most of it.  Way to coach, Al!

The Workout – 5 mile tempo

News – there will be a long run departing the zero at 7:00:00 am Saturday.  Off the trail this week for 9 or 17.  There will be water/gatorade at miles 2, 5, 8, 11, 13, and 15 on the long route and 2, 5, and 7 on the short route.  Breakfast at Dario’s at 8:55:12 am.

More News – the Decker Challenge is coming up on December 11th (three weeks).  The Ship will be hosting a water stop along with other volunteer opportunities.  Please email Cristy if you’re interested in helping out.  It’s the perfect way to give back for those of you who have inquired about helping with the cost of the gatorade/ice/cups/coolers (and the rest of you too)!

The group made a concerted effort to shorten the workout but Coach Al would have none of that…reminding them that they were only cheating themselves.  Way to coach, Al!

The Workout – 1200, 1000, 800, 600, 400, 200

News – there will be a hill workout on Thursday (5 mile tempo).  There will be a long run departing the zero at 7:00:00 am Saturday.  Off the trail this week for 9 or 17.  There will be water/gatorade at miles 2, 5, 8, 11, 13, and 15 on the long route and 2, 5, and 7 on the short route.  Breakfast at Dario’s at 8:55:12 am.

November 10, 2011

It looked like the group was going to be small.  In fact, it doubled in size from the time we started the drills until they were done.  As advertised, it was dark.  The amount of blinking lights and reflective clothing was impressive!

The Workout – 5 mile tempo

News – there will be a long run Saturday departing the zero at 7:00:00 am.  On the trail this week for 4, 9, 0r 15.  It’s quite easy to run just about any distance on the trail.  Since there isn’t technically a “9 mile loop” or a “15 mile loop” you can either string loops together or run out half the distance you need to cover, turn around, and run back to the zero.  TMTG will be departing at 5:20:00 am for 10 extra.  Breakfast at Juan-in-a-Million at 9:35:12 am.  Eric is ready to take on any challengers to his record.
