46 fools showed up to bid James farewell on his final track workout.  The weather, while muggy, held as the group completed the workout.  There will be two additional stops on James’ farewell tour.  If you missed Tuesday night, you can see him Thursday on the hills or Saturday for the long run.  Way to coach, Al!

The Workout – 2 x farewell 400 (one for seeding, one for racing), then 2 x 1200 meter repeats
Fast Group =  2 sets
Fun Group = 1 sets

News – there will be a hill workout on Thursday, tempo runs of 5 or 10 miles (Bostonians run it twice).  There will be a long run on Saturday departing the zero at 7:00:00 am.  On the trail this week for 4, 7, 10, or 15 miles (Bostonians).  Breakfast at Maria’s Taco Express (2529 S Lamar) at 8:51:49 am.

James’ last week with the ship is next week.  Be sure to make it to the track on Tuesday evening for his final 1/4 mile send off!

The Workout – long hill/short hill (ouch)
Fun Group = 4 (about 2 miles)
Fast Group = 6 (about 3 miles)

News – there will be a long run departing the zero at 7:00:00 am Saturday.  Off the trail this week for 10.71 or 21.42 if you do it twice (Bostonians).  There will be a group departing at 6:00:00 am as well.  There will be gatorade out there every few miles.  Breakfast at El Gallo (2910 S Congress) starting at 8:53:46 am (first shift).

Huge props to everyone who ran the Austin Marathon or Half Marathon on Sunday!  There were about 50 people at tonight’s workout…at least 2/3s of which reported participating in one event or the other.  Dr. Chris from Performance Wellness was nice enough to stop by for some complimentary evaluations and treatments.  Thank you to Megan and ARC for setting this up…it was an enormous success!  Way to coach, Al!!

If you’re running the marathon on Sunday…it’s time to call your shot!  In ship tradition, the “closest to” gets FREE lunch from the “furthest from”.  Send your called shot to Coach Al.  Way to coach, Al!

The Workout – 2 mile tempo (you can always do extra)

News – there will be a marathon party tonight at Big’s house at 7:00:00 pm.  There will be a long run departing the zero at 7:00:00 am on Saturday.  On the trail this week for 4, 7, or 10.  Breakfast at Another Broken Egg at 8:59:59 am.

More News – after the marathon on Sunday, the group will be convening at County Line on the Lake for lunch at 1:00:00 pm.

Happy Valentines Day!

Traffic = horrible. Weather = questionable. The group started with about 10 in attendance but quickly swelled to the mid-20s by time the drills were over. Way to coach, Al!

The Workout – 6 x 400

News – there will be a hill workout on Thursday (2 mile tempo). There will be a 4 mile option if 2 just doesn’t do it for you. There will be a long run departing the zero at 7:00:00 am on Saturday, route and distance TBA. Breakfast TBA as well.

More News – the pre-marathon party is THIS Friday at Big’s house starting at 7:00:00 pm. You should have already RSVP’d via email. Final headcount needed by today.

Yet More News Still – the post-marathon lunch will be held at County Line on the Lake at 1:00:00 pm Sunday.

Wow, what a perfect evening for a short tempo run!  Way to coach, Al!!

The Workout – 3 mile tempo

News – there will be a long run on Saturday departing the zero at 7:00:00 am.  Off the trail this week for 10 miles or 8 miles (same map, just turn right at Cumberland and right at S 1st).  Breakfast at Dario’s (1800 E 6th St) at 9:06:17 am.

More news – no, the pre-marathon party invite has not been sent…but it will be any minute!

The annual ship pre-marathon party is now less than two weeks away…which means the marathon is about two weeks away as well!  If you are on the email list you should be receiving an invitation shortly.  If you are NOT on the email list and would like an invite, please let me know (either by comment here or email).  The party is Friday, February 17th from 7:00:00 pm until closing time.  Attendance will be capped at 60.

The Workout – 1000 meter repeats
Fast/Marathon Group = 5
Fun/Half Marathon Group = 4
Newcomers = 3

News – there will be a hill workout on Thursday (3 mile tempo).  There will be a long run on Saturday.  Off the trail this week for 10 miles or 8 miles (map forthcoming).  Breakfast at Dario’s (1800 E 6th St) at 9:06:17 am. 

More News – after breakfast, everyone volunteering for the marathon door hanging experience will meet at RunTex Riverside to divide and conquer.

There seemed to be a disproportionate amount of 5 mile tempo runs in this year’s build up to the Austin Marathon.  The 15 or so that showed up for tonight’s got to enjoy some warm, humid weather and lots of traffic.  Way to coach, Al!

News – there will be a long run on Saturday.  On the trail this week for 12 or 13 miles.  There are a variety of ways to accomplish runs of either distance.  Breakfast at Casa Garcia (1000 S Lamar) at 9:03:12 am.
