With the help of a spicy 102 degrees, we bid a fond farewell to August.  Good-bye, August…don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

The Workout – tempo runs of 4 miles or 6 miles

News – there will be a long run departing the zero at 7:00:00 am Saturday.  On the trail this week for 5, 7, or 10 miles.  The parking area closest to the zero will most likely be unavailable due to the triathlon on Monday so plan accordingly.  Breakfast at El Gallo (2910 S Congress) whenever you get there.

A near perfect August night for a run enjoyed by many, many, many.  Welcome back, Tony!

The Workout – 800 meter repeats
Marathon/Fast Group = 6
Half Marathon/Fun Group = 4

News – there will be a hill workout on Thursday (tempo runs of 4 miles or 6 miles).  It might be a good idea to familiarize yourself with the map for the route you’re planning on running.  There will be a long run departing the zero at 7:00:00 am on Saturday.  On the trail this week for 5, 7, or 10 miles.  The parking area closest to the zero will most likely be unavailable due to the triathlon on Monday so plan accordingly.  Breakfast TBA.

We only have one rule…Rule #1.  Rule #1 is “don’t make the rest of us look bad.”  Consider the rest of these suggestions.  You should only ever cross the road when you think it is safe for you to do so.  Not because the person in front of you or beside you crossed.  Look and decide based on your judgment of the situation.  Also, the Thursday tempo routes and Saturday long run maps are posted in advance so that everyone running them has an equal chance of knowing where they’re supposed to be going, turn-by-turn.  Once the map is sent out and then described immediately prior to taking off it should be relatively simple to run the route.  If someone in front of you turns where a turn is not supposed to be…don’t follow them.  Be courageous and forge ahead on the path you know to be correct.  It is your inalienable right to run the route as mapped and described.

Marathon/Fast Group = 2×1200, 4×800
Half Marathon/Fun Group = 2×1200, 1×800

The Workout – 3 mile tempo (yes, you’d need to run it twice to do 3 miles)

News – there will be a long run on Saturday departing the zero at 7:00:00 am.  On the trail again this week for 4, 7, or 10.  BHMTG will be departing at 6:10 am for 5 extra (there is a possibility that BHMTG will be out of commission Saturday morning so start at 6:10 am if you’re there and they’re not).  Breakfast at Dario’s (1800 E 6th St) at 8:57:56 am.

The group fell off a little from last Tuesday but still quite large.  10 gallons of water and 5 gallons of gatorade demolished.  Thanks to Colin for refilling the water!  Way to coach, Al!

Newcomers/Beginners = 1

Over 100 people showed up at tonight’s workout to kick off Austin Marathon/Half Marathon training!  Way to go Austin Runners Club, Coach Al, Vance, and everyone else working behind the scenes!  With a group that large AND the 104 degree temperature it shouldn’t surprise anyone to learn that we set new PRs in water and gatorade consumption (at 9 and 8 gallons, respectively).  That’s almost 22 oz per person!

The Workout – timed mile (followed loosely by 2 x 800)

103, seriously??  It’s a good thing the beer at Third Base was cold because that workout was a scorcher!  Hey, I just realized that last Thursday’s workout marked the 300th post on this blog…nearly three years worth of archived workouts.  Nice!  Way to coach, Al!!

News – there will be a long run on Saturday departing SANDY’S MANSION at 7:00:00 am.  Routes of 9.92 or 5.37 miles followed by FREE breakfast at the mansion followed by a FREE tour of an archeological dig just a short hop from the mansion.  What’s better than that??

More News – this coming Tuesday (8/7) there will be a nice influx of newcomers to the group.  Please make them feel welcome!
