October 30, 2012

Another workout completed…another month gone.  October of 2012 will be fondly remembered for it’s milder weather and shipmates getting lost (aka doing extra) on the second loop of a loop they’d already run once in the opposite direction.  Way to lead from the front, Joe…and way to coach, Al!

The Workout – mile repeats (a la Bridle Path)

News – there will be a hill workout on Thursday (2 mile tempo…two laps).  There will be a long run departing the zero at 7:00:00 am on Saturday.  Off the trail this week for 13 miles or 10 miles.  The Fun Fun Fun Fest is blocking the parking parking parking lot at Auditorium Shores so give yourself some extra time to park.  Don’t worry if you’re running a little late, we’ll wait for you until 7:00:00 am.  Breakfast at Maria’s Taco Express (2529 S Lamar) at 9:20:00 am.

More News – the Daisy 5k is November 11th (not this weekend but next).  Support ARC, run Daisy!

The Workout – 5 mile tempo

There was a football game at O. Henry, then Bridle Path was under construction, and then Bridle Path was clear.  Way to be flexible, gang!  Way to coach, Al!

The Workout – 1000 meter repeats (contrary to what your individual schedule might have said…see “flexibility” above)

News – there will be a hill workout on Thursday (5 mile tempo).  As a side note, the 5 miler is a good tune up for Run for the Water this Sunday.  A fair chunk of the course (and all of the hard parts) are duplicated.  There will be a long run departing the zero at 7:00:00 am Saturday.  On the trail this week for 9 or 10 miles.  Breakfast at Casa Garcia (1000 S Lamar) at 9:00:00 am.

Run every chance you get!

p.s.  Be kind to your neighbors.  Be REAL kind to people who aren’t your neighbors but live in neighborhoods that you run in on occasion!

The odd week in the ship continues.  Today, on the 5 mile tempo run, there was a girl walking a horse down Scenic.

The Workout – tempo runs of 3 miles or 5 miles

News – there will be a long run on Saturday departing the zero at 7:00:00 am.  Off the trail this week for 13 miles or 8 miles (u-turn at Westover).  Breakfast at Cafe Express whenever you get there.

Tonight’s 5k time trial was a little wet but well attended.  The community really came out strong in support of our effort with tons of unsolicited coaching (the gamut…from attire to etiquette).  Fortunately Nick was there to calm the situation with equal parts suave and hard hitting common sense.  Way to be diplomatic, Nick…and way to coach, Al!

The Workout – the aforementioned 5k time trial

News – there will be a hill workout on Thursday (tempo runs of 3 miles or 5 miles).  There will be a long run on Saturday departing the zero at 7:00:00 am.  Off the trail this week for 8 or 13 miles.  Routes to be determined.  Breakfast TBA.

More News – there will be a Frankenthon on Saturday morning as well.  Good luck to everyone running it.  Thank you to everyone directing it, volunteering for it, or sending good vibes in that general direction.

I love calendar anomalies…like today being 10/11/12.  REMINDER!  Tuesday’s workout (10/16/2012) will convene at the corner of Bullard/Great Northern at 6:15:00 pm.  We’ll be doing a 5k time trial in order to fine tune your workout plan leading up to the Austin Marathon/Half Marathon.  El Arroyo on Far West is reserving the patio for us post workout to kick start your recovery.

The Workout – tempo runs of 7 miles or 4 miles

News – there will be a long run on Saturday departing the zero at 7:00:00 am.  On the trail this week for 4, 7, or 10 miles.  Breakfast El Gallo whenever you get there.

More News – the Daisy 5k is exactly one month from today and Austin Runners Club needs volunteers.  If you’re not running, volunteer!!  If you’re not volunteering, race!!

October 9, 2012

The O. Henry contingency plan was activated today due to a football game on the field inside the track.  A rather large (but not very thirsty) group convened on Bridle Path to complete the workout.  During the announcements it became obvious that training works.  There were many significant PRs reported at many distances over the weekend from 5k to marathon.  Way to coach, Al!

The Workout – 400 meter repeats
Fast/Marathon Group = 10
Fun/Half Marathon Group = 8
Newcomers/Beginners = 6

News – there will be a hill workout on Thursday (tempo runs of 7 miles or 4 miles).  There will be a long run on Saturday departing the zero at 7:00:00 am.  On the trail this week for 4, 7, or 10 miles.  Breakfast TBA.

More News – on 10/16 we will NOT be meeting at O. Henry or the restroom near the rock.  We will be meeting at the intersection of Bullard & Great Northern for a 5k time trial.  Here is a preview of the course to stoke your competitive fire!  The time from this effort will be used to create or tweak your training plan for the Austin Marathon/Half Marathon.

Ouch.

The Workout – tempo runs of 3 miles or 6 miles (do the 3 miler twice)

News – there will be a long run  departing the zero at 7:00:00 am on Saturday.  Off the trail this week for 7.68 miles or 12.2 miles.  The weather is going to be nearly perfect but we’ll have Gatorade out there every few miles anyway.  Breakfast at Another Broken Egg whenever you get there.

October 3, 2012

That might have been the best running night of the year…maybe ever.  It was relatively cool, dry, no wind, and it was the EASY week.  Way to coach, Al!

The Workout – mile repeats
Fast/Marathon Group = 3
Fun/Half Marathon Group = 2
Newcomers/Beginners = 1

News – there will be a hill workout on Thursday (3 or 6 mile tempo by running this 3 mile loop once or twice reversing direction on the second lap if you opt for the 6 miler).  There will be a long run  departing the zero at 7:00:00 am on Saturday.  Don’t let last week’s slip up (when we departed at 7:00:01 am) lull you into a false sense of security.  Off the trail this week for 7.68 miles or 12.2 miles.  The weather is going to be nearly perfect but we’ll have Gatorade out there every few miles anyway.  Breakfast at Another Broken Egg whenever you get there.
