We still need a few more volunteers for the door hanging on Saturday, February 7th.  Thank you to the folks who’ve already stepped up!  I’ll be sending a link out with more info as soon as we round up the last few bodies.  The short version is we start after breakfast, hang notices on doors along the marathon route for a couple of hours, and call it a day.  There is usually a t-shirt and FREE breakfast involved.  Please email me if interested.

There are a lot of people doing a lot of things that make this group so awesome and so special.  If you know of someone who really stands out, let us know!  Thank you to everyone who has submitted a nomination for Shipmate of the Year and thank you to everyone who has contributed to the Shipmate of the Year grand prize.  Please keep the nominations and contributions coming in!

The annual marathon party (Friday, February 13th) has reached its soft cap of 50 but I’m still squeezing folks in where I can.  If you’re feeling especially deserving of a spot…hit me up with your sad story or mountain of cash and I’ll see what I can do to get you in.  It helps if you volunteer to hang flyers on doors, nominate a shipmate of the year, or contribute to the shipmate of the year fund!

One of the ship’s official volunteer functions for the last several years has been hanging notices on the doors of residences along the marathon route.  These notices alert the resident that there will be thousands of runners passing by their doors on race day so that they may plan accordingly.  This years door hanging will take place on Saturday, February 7th, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.  We need 20 folks to knock it out quickly.  If you can help out please shoot me an email.  Thanks!

Please keep your Shipmate of the Year nominations coming in!  Also, please continue giving your contributions to the Shipmate of the Year fund to Coach Al or myself.  Collections have been brisk so the SotY is in for a BIG surprise!!  Several have asked about contributing via PayPal.  Simply reply to this email and I’ll provide instructions for doing it that way.  Way to coach, Al!

Please put some thought into who you think has earned the honor of Shipmate of the Year!  Also, if you’d like to contribute to the Shipmate of the Year grand prize simply slide me or Coach Al any amount you’d like.  We have a long and illustrious history of bestowing outlandish gifts on the recipient.  Help us continue to make it a big deal!  We’ll take nominations through Friday, February 6th, and funds through Thursday, February 12th.

The Workout – 7 mile tempo

News – there will be a long run departing the zero at 7:00:00 am on Saturday.  On the trail this week for 10 miles or 13 miles.  13 milers will add the Colorado River extension east of Pleasant Valley to the 10 mile loop.  Yes, your schedule may say as much as 20 miles this week.  With 3M on Sunday we’re going to dovetail the Saturday long run distance to coincide with that and move the 20 miler to NEXT Saturday.  Don’t despair.  If you’d like to stick to the schedule you can always add 7 more to the 13 and you might even have company.  Breakfast at Hoover’s (2002 Manor) at 9:27:27 am.

The Runners World photo shoot appeared to go off without a hitch.  Thank you all for your flexibility in showing up early and assisting with the “walk throughs” to help them get the perfect shot(s).  I did overhear some talk about “faces made for radio” but hopefully they got at least one or two that are fit for publication.  Way to make the most of your 15 seconds of fame…and way to coach, Al!

The workout on Tuesday (January 20th) will now begin at 5:30 pm (the price of fame).  Please arrive as early as possible and be loose and attractive for Runners World.

It’s also time to submit your nomination for Shipmate of the Year.  Shipmate of the Year is an award we give annually to the Shipmate who shines above all others.  We typically take donations/contributions to a fund that is disbursed to the winner (along with minutes and minutes of praise) at the Marathon Party.  Please slide Coach Al or Big whatever you’d like to add to the pot.  Not at all tax deductible but chock full of yummy karma!

As previously mentioned, a formal RSVP for the marathon party should arrive in your inbox shortly.  If you’ve emailed me your RSVP…you’re not RSVPd.  Please respond to the formal invitation.  50 people is about as many as we can squeeze in here so the party is limited to the first 50 people who respond.  Your kiddo/non-running significant other/friend/mom/dad/uncle/brother/sister/in-laws/niece/nephew/cousin/grandparent is also welcome with the following caveat; they’re going to displace someone from the group.  What can you bring?  Nothing!  We’ll have both meat and veggie lasagna, salad, bread, dessert, water, gatorade, and Shiner.  If you want something other than that (yellow beer, wine, or super vegan tofu lasagna) feel free to bring it.  You don’t have to be running the marathon to attend.

The Workout – 3 x 1600

News – there will be a hill workout on Thursday (10 mile tempo…run the linked route twice).  There will be a long run departing the zero at 7:00:00 am on Saturday morning.  Off the trail this week for 15.4 miles.  There will be water/gatorade at the following spots:
