The party invite went out and the party filled up relatively quickly.  When the weather forecast is released on or about Feb. 3rd the fate of the 10 or so additional spots will be known.  In the meantime, please formulate your very sad story as the final spots will be awarded based not on something as blase as “first come, first served” but, rather, on the relative weight of the tug on the committee’s collective heart string.

The Workout – 4 mile tempo

News – there will be a long run departing the zero at 7:00:00 am on Saturday morning.  Off the trail this week for 21.59 miles or 10 miles (linked route plus an out/back to where Barton Creek meets the Colorado).  There will be water/gatorade every few miles.  Breakfast at Cheko’s (1304 Koenig) when you arrive.

The Workout – 6 x 400 (w/ a partner), 4 x 400 (solo)

News – there will be a hill workout on Thursday (4 mile tempo).  There will be a long run departing the zero at 7:00:00 am on Saturday morning.  Off the trail this week for 21.59 miles or 10 miles (linked route plus an out/back to where Barton Creek meets the Colorado).  Breakfast at Cheko’s (1304 Koenig) when you arrive.

The workout was cancelled due to lightning in the area (wind, cold, and rain notwithstanding).  Way to coach, Al!

News – there will be a hill workout on Thursday (4 mile tempo).  There will be a long run departing the zero at 7:00:00 am Saturday morning.  On/off the trail this week for 13 miles (linked route plus the 7 mile loop on the trail).  There will be nuun on Ben White between S Congress and S First.  Breakfast at Hoover’s (2002 Manor Rd) at 9:30:30 am.

Way to survive the cold/windy Saturday long run!  It appeared as though the coolers cooperated as well.  FYI, the cooler on Ben White did NOT have nuun as previously advertised.  Not knowing the specific properties with respect to sub 20 degree conditions, the mixologist opted to go with what he knows.  Nuun will be in the non-water cooler at the next several Tuesday workouts.  It may also make an appearance at one or more Thursday workouts.  Additionally, there is a chance it will be along our training routes on Saturdays between now and the Austin Marathon.  It is what will be along the course on race day and the folks at the Marathon were kind enough to supply is with some in an effort to support your acclimation.  Thank you Austin Marathon and way to coach, Al!

Coach Al needs pace group leaders for Saturday morning’s long run.  Let him know if you can help.

*IMPORTANT*  It’s supposed to be in the 20s with a brisk north wind on Saturday morning.  You might want to operate under the assumption that the restrooms/fountains/showers at Auditorium Shores and all along the trail will be turned off.  You may also want to prepare yourself for the cooler valves to be frozen at our water stops.  We will take steps to prevent that (not icing the liquid inside) but temps in the 20s and that kind of wind will start to work against those efforts immediately.

The Workout – 10 mile tempo (linked route x 2)

News – there will be a long run departing the zero at 7:00:00 am Saturday morning.  On/off the trail this week for 13 miles or 15 miles.  Everyone will start with this 6.17 miler and then do this 7.02 miler.  At that point the 13 milers will be done and the 15 milers will do a 2 mile out/back on the trail.  Breakfast at El Borrego De Oro (3900 S Congress) at 9:45:00 am.

The Workout – 3 x (2 x 1200) or 9 x 800 (Yassos)

News – there will be a hill workout on Thursday (10 mile tempo, linked route twice).  There will be a long run departing the zero at 7:00:00 am Saturday morning.  On/off the trail this week for 13 miles or 15 miles.  Everyone will start with this 6.17 miler and then do this 7.02 miler.  At that point the 13 milers will be done and the 15 milers will do a 2 mile out/back on the trail.  Breakfast at El Borrego De Oro (3900 S Congress) at 9:45:00 am.
